Integrating Snipcart Into A Perch CMS Build
Integrating Snipcart into a Perch CMS build
In these strange times (mid-Covid pandemic), some businesses are looking to broaden their income streams.
This was the case for a local yoga studio, Barley Yoga & Dance, who through the pandemic had switched to offering classes via Zoom. They found there was also a need to supply yoga mats, blocks and equipment to new and existing clients who when attending classes had used the studio's equipment and now needed their own.
After some research, it was decided the quickest and most cost-effective e-commerce solution was Snipcart. The shop was added into the existing Perch built website; to help draw new clients to the Zoom classes and also to offer existing website users the option of buying yoga equipment.
The first step in the process of integrating the shop was to set up a Snipcart account and then follow the steps in the documentation to get your shop account up and running, it really does yarn develop only takes a few minutes.
Once the Snipcart account was set up, it was a case of adding a new page to the existing website that would display all the products. showing the product images, variants, descriptions and prices, these are all are added through the Perch admin panel. This then displays the products on the new online-shop page, it was decided to add a filter to allow clients to narrow down the choice of product types if required, making a product selection quicker.
The product listing page displays all products, each product has an add to cart button and a view details button, the add to cart button once clicked takes you through to the cart carrying with it all the necessary details including the product weight, this is required if shipping, a view details button once clicked takes the potential purchaser through to a product detail page which displays a more in-depth product description along with colour options and physical sizes and of course an 'add to cart' button.
Once the client adds the product to their cart then Snipcart takes over and handles the purchasing part of the transaction, bringing the client back to the original website once the purchase is completed, so simple but very effective.
Snipcarts pricing is very competitive with a flat rate of 2% per transactions plus gateway fees (as of March 2020). There are a host of advanced features including stock tracking, Webhooks & Inventory Management.
From both a developers and clients point of view, Snipcart offers a simple and effective way to get an online eCommerce presence set up.
